Iterative hybrid manufacture of a titanium alloy component

چکیده

This paper describes an iterative hybrid (additive + subtractive) manufacturing approach for a titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) part using laser hotwire directed energy deposition system (LHWDED) and traditional four-axis milling machine tool. The term is used to described where the additive subtractive operations occur in multiple stages rather than sequentially. It currently common produce entire by sequential additively (AM) preform geometry that then requires post processing another tool create final features. By contrast, produced (IHM) does not single AM process. Instead, portion of manufactured process, transferred which creates features portion, machined back complete There no limit number iterations IHM process can have. offers several advantages over such as use shorter stiffer tooling, better access geometries require processes, separation heat source from A demonstration was successfully with three shared pallet between tool.1

The axisymmetric computational study of a femoral component to analysis the effect of titanium alloy and diameter variation.

This work presents a numerical approach in order to predict the influence of implant material stiffness in a femoral component design when submitted in compression. The implant success depends on the transferred load to the neighboring bone. The finite element method can be used to analysis the stress and strain distribution in the femoral component allowing to improve the implant selection. Fo...

Long-term survival of a cemented titanium-aluminium-vanadium alloy straight-stem femoral component.

We present a retrospective series of 170 cemented titanium straight-stem femoral components combined with two types of femoral head: cobalt-chromium (CoCr) alloy (114 heads) and alumina ceramic (50 heads). Of the study group, 55 patients (55 stems) had died and six (six stems) were lost to follow-up. At a mean of 13.1 years (3 to 15.3) 26 stems had been revised for aseptic loosening. The mean f...

Effect of whitening toothpaste on titanium and titanium alloy surfaces.

Dental implants have increased the use of titanium and titanium alloys in prosthetic applications. Whitening toothpastes with peroxides are available for patients with high aesthetic requirements, but the effect of whitening toothpastes on titanium surfaces is not yet known, although titanium is prone to fluoride ion attack. Thus, the aim of the present study was to compare Ti-5Ta alloy to cp T...

Machinability evaluation of Titanium alloy in Laser Assisted Turning

The use of titanium and its alloys has increased in various industries recently, because of their superior properties of these alloys. Titanium alloys are generally classified as difficult to machine materials because of their thermo-mechanical properties such as high strength-to-weight ratio and low thermal conductivity. Laser Assisted Machining (LAM) improves the machinability of high strengt...
